Meet Your Meat

Vegetarian is becoming the new fad right? Or so it seems. A lot of people are doing it because their friends are, because they think it makes them look cool or sound cool. All of these reasons help to save the lives of animals, so who am I to complain right? But don’t you think that we should be doing it for the right reasons? Animals are being mistreated every single day. And what’s worse, we only pick certain ones. It’s like we’re stereotyping them just like we do our own human race. People treat house animals, such as cats and dogs, with the utmost respect. Letting them live among us in our homes, giving them great food, a nice place to sleep, the ability to lounge around all day if they please. But tell me this: how is it fair for them to be able to bask in the sun, sprawled on the living room floor when chickens, pigs, cows, turkeys, and many other animals are being crammed into tiny cages and kept in horrible, wet, dirty, and ungodly terrible smelling warehouses, without ever seeing sunlight until the day they are sent to the slaughter houses? Maybe it’s just a crazy idea, but to me this seems just about as fair as discriminating against people for the color of their skin. It is so unnecessary; I mean come on, it’s the twenty-first century, I think we as human beings should be able to accept people for who they are, not what they are. And the same should be true of animals. They’re not just a rack of ribs, or a juicy leg of meat. They’re living, breathing individuals too. Ones who deserve to live in their natural environments. Ones who deserve to be able to raise their young naturally, not have their babies torn from them at birth, never to be seen again. This is unjust and unfair treatment that needs to be stopped. In researching the topic I have gotten suggestions from http://www.goveg.com/factoryFarming.asp This site says, and rightly so, that the single most effective way to help out is the in fact, become a vegetarian. It saves over 100 animals every year! They also give links to sites such as the homepage of PETA and such organizations. Also, buying meat from local, organic farmers is a lot better than buying it from huge, chainlike corporations. It give the locals more profit, as well as supports a company that treats their animals the way they should be treated.

Its up to you to decide what you’re going to do … or not do, to help out these animals. The choice is yours, and it’s only a click away.

I totally understand how you feel. I’m going to be a vegtarian. I have always wondered what would happen when all the animals have died out and humans have no meat, Would they go so low to actuall eat themselves? that is just gross. I think that being a vegetarian would be better than anything else.

I completely agree with your blog. Although I am not a vegetarian, I will cut down on my meat. But you have to keep in mind that many people cannot become vegetarian due to their culture because meat could be extremely involved with their food. Many people who do become vegetarian, as i noticed, goes back to eating meat because they do not get the proteins and nutrients that you get from eating meat. I strongly suggest tofu or veggie burgers!

Keep up with the good work!

I ABSOLUTELY agree with you! I love that there’s someone with the same views as me. And by the way, one vegetarian saves 100 PIGS, so they actually save even more animals. I hate the way people discriminate towards living animals, and you should really spread the word. And you have an excellent link. I’ve been to that site, and the information is fantastic.

You know, if someone is doing something for the greater good, sometimes the reasons ought to just be hushed. Of course, the goal is to understand the problem and adopt vegetarianism/veganism for the right reasons, but you must learn to pick your battles, and if the outcome is good, then maybe the reasons can be turned a blind eye to, in this case.

On a side note, though, perhaps advertising the fact that PETA saves 100 animals a year isn’t the best thing to do when taking into account that they also have the nasty little habit of euthanising an obscene amount of animals. I’m vegan, so I agree with the theme of your post, but PETA is not the best method by which to prove anything.

As much as I like animals, I have to admit I love meat with every meal. I never really think about how the chicken was treated when its sitting in front of my plate. I’m not sure I agree with vegetarianism become the new in thing, because I don’t know many vegetarians or people that are thinking about becoming vegetarians, course I could always be wrong. I believe that there are certain health concerns I have about eating meat, such as all the growth hormones they pump into baby animals to get them on the market as soon as possible, instead of them growing of age naturally. I assume these hormones are in some way effecting the human body. That’s why we look at little kids in like the 5th grade in they look like freshman in high school, ha but that’s just my opinion. Good post.

I’ve always wished that all humans were vegetarians by nature. It’s so sad how many animals a day are being killed to feed everybody in the world. Animals are so helpless, one day their grazing out in a nice open field, another day later, they’re locked up in a cell waiting to be killed. I hate the fact of slaughter houses, it is so gross! Also, the fact that they turn other animals into dog food, or glue! Oh my gosh, that is by far one of the worst things possible. Becuase, in fact i have a horse, and I love him so much, I could never think of him becomming my dogs next meal, or used for my school project. It just sickens me.
